BATON ROUGE, La. –April 10, 2014 After a year off, second-year LSU volunteer assistant coach Sharonda McDonald will make her return to National Pro Fastpitch this summer as a member of the USSSA Florida Pride the organization announced today.

McDonald, a veteran coach and former NPF All-Star, was last with the Akron Racers for three seasons from 2010-12 where she earned the NPF’s Golden Spikes award after hitting .303 on the year with 13 stolen bases for Akron. In all, the Houston, Texas, native has played professionally for six years between time with the Racers and Philadelphia Force in the United States and internationally with the Fiorini Softball Club of the Italian Professional League.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to return to National Pro Fastpitch this summer as a member of the USSSA Florida Pride,” McDonald said. “I want to thank Don and the Pride for giving me a chance to be a part of a league that represents so much of what I love. I truly feel privileged to be a part of it again.”

A standout outfielder at Texas A&M where McDonald was a three-time NFCA All-Region selection and All-Big 12 honoree, she has since become one of the rising young coaches in the country as she heads up a Tiger outfield corps that under her tutelage has produced All-American A.J. Andrews and All-SEC selection Jacee Blades. Led by Andrews and Blades, LSU slappers accounted for over 40 percent of the team’s hits, with the duo placing in the top 15 in base knocks individually in the Southeastern Conference.
