A 4-Run 4th Inning is all Osterman Needs to Beat Racers 4-2

Akron, OH-August 9, 2014–After the Akron Racers took the first two games of the series, the USSSA Florida Pride turned to their ace to get a win Saturday evening at Firestone Stadium in Akron, OH. Cat Osterman had 12 strikeouts and threw a complete game four hitter in her 15th victory of the year. A four-run fourth inning was all Osterman and the Pride needed to get a 4-2 victory and end Akron’s seven game winning streak.

All of the Pride’s scoring came with two outs in the 4th inning. Second baseman Amanda Kamekona hit a solo home run off of Racers starting pitcher Alison Owen to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. After GiOnna DiSalvatore singled one batter later, the Racers went to their bullpen and brought in Hannah Campbell. Brigette DelPonte doubled off of Campbell before Kristin Sandberg followed with a three-run home run that proved to be all the support Osterman needed.

The Racers responded in the bottom of the fourth when first baseman Charlotte Morgan hit a line-drive single directly off Osterman’s leg. Designated Player Jessica Garcia then drilled a two-run home run to make the score 4-2. Those two runs were just the seventh and eighth earned runs Osterman has allowed this season.

The Pride offense had 10 hits off Owen and Campbell including a combined 5-10 from the Pride’s 1-2-3 hitters. Caitlin Lowe extended her hit streak to 18 games after a 2-4 performance on the day. Kamekona’s team-leading seventh homerun puts her in a tie for third on the NPF leader board.
