Pride Add to Win Record with a 4-0 Victory

VIERA, FL. (July 23, 2018) – The USSSA Pride secured the win for the first game back home the Space Coast Stadium with a 4-0 victory over the Cleveland Comets in the first game of the series.

After a rainy pre-game, the first game of the series was able to start on time.

The Pride started off the scoring in bottom of the second. Kirsti Merritt hit a stand up double to left field and was brought home by Shelby Pendley.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kelly Kretschman starts it off with a lead-off walk and Lauren Chamberlain hit one to shallow left field for a stand up double to move Kretschman to third.

With runners on second and third, Merritt had a sacrifice fly to center field to score the second run of the game.

A scoreless fifth inning, in the bottom of the sixth the Pride bats woke up again as the red, white and blue scored two more runs on two solo homeruns from Megan Wiggins and Chamberlain.

The final score for the night’s game was four to zero.

Pride added to their winning streak and their overall record, reaching 34-2 with a five game winning streak since the second loss of the season on July 13.

In the circle and getting the win for the 6-inning appearance was Jessica Burroughs. Throwing a no hitter until a shallow fly ball to left and center field in the top of the fourth.

The Vaultz Lock it up Player of the game was Burroughs for her efforts in the circle and only allowing one hit on six innings pitched.

July 24 the Pride take on the Cleveland Comets for game two of the series at 7:05 P.M. ET at the USSSA Space Coast Stadium.
