Birmingham, AL – November 19, 2013- The National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league has awarded their Championship Series to Southern Sports Group, a Birmingham based event management and marketing agency, in conjunction with the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Championships.
This will be the first time the NPF Championship Series will be held in Alabama with all games to be played at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, a venue that also hosts the SEC Baseball Championships.
The Championship Series is the league’s hallmark event and the culmination of regular season competition. The Series will feature all four league teams and begin Wednesday, August 20th with four days of play concluding with the “best of 3” Finals on Friday, August 22 and Saturday August 23, 2014.
“We are excited about bringing professional softball to Alabama and the city of Hoover and believe our Championship Series will be welcomed by an avid group of fans in the South as well as across the nation, “ said NPF Commissioner, Cheri Kempf. “The fastpitch softball fan base has exploded over the past 17 years with the addition of softball to the SEC slate of competitive sports, and we are so thrilled to share with this group the extraordinary talents of our professional athletes.”
The South has experienced dynamic softball growth in the recent years as college programs in the Southeastern Conference continue to rise to the top of the college ranks, with the University of Alabama capturing the WCWS Championship in 2012. The Series will undoubtedly return some of Alabama’s and the SEC’s superstars along with other of the nation’s most celebrated and decorated college players, Olympic gold and silver medalists, as well as top players and Olympians from both Canada and Japan.
“There has never been a better time to bring the NPF Championship Series to the Deep South, as we have some of the best softball fans in the country, “ said Southern Sports Group President, Sandy Thompson. “This top level of play, along with a great facility to showcase this talent, will make this event something special. “
