Morgan, Mendoza Power Pride Past Diamonds, Win 7-0

USSSA Pride 7, NPF Diamonds 0

Miami, FL– Danielle Lawrie pitched a phenomenal game in the Pride’s 7-0 win against the Diamonds on Sunday night at Florida International University. Lawrie struck out 9 batters en route to a shut out victory.

In the win, the Pride offense stayed hot, tallying 9 hits, including two home runs by Charlotte Morgan and Jessica Mendoza. With the win, the Pride remain in 3rd Place in the NPF standings with a record of 6-6.

Charlotte Morgan started off the scoring for the Pride in the second inning as she led off with a solo home run to deep left center to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.

Jessica Mendoza would showcase more power for the Pride as she would hit a two out, 2 run home run to right field, plating Natasha Watley who had doubled earlier in the inning, making it 3-0.

In the 4th inning, Danielle Lawrie showcased her skills as she would get out of a huge bases loaded jam by striking out three Diamond batters in a row to hold the Diamonds scoreless. Danielle Lawrie walked Biannca Mejia, then give up a single to Brianna Hesson. She would follow it up by walking Megan Gibson to load the bases. Lawrie would strike out Findlay, Hile, and Kliesing in order to end the inning.

The game would remain 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Pride would add 3 more runs to their total, giving them a 6-0 lead. Ashley Charters started off the scoring with a 2 RBI double scoring Haber and Salling. Charlotte Morgan would hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Ashley Charters, who had reached on a double earlier in the inning. Kelly Kretschman followed up Charlotte with a single to score Mendoza, making it 7-0.

The Pride would go on to shut out the Diamonds 7-0 and win their 6th game of the season, maintaining their 3rd place spot in the NPF Standings.

The Pride will return to action on June 30th in Akron as they will face the first place Racers in a four game series, with hopes that they will be able to inch closer to regaining the top spot in the NPF standings.
