Pride: 5
Comets: 1
Kissimmee, FL- The USSSA Pride started off their 2013 season in winning fashion with a 5-1 victory over the NY/NJ Comets on Sunday night in their home opener. Cat Osterman got off to a hot start in what will be her final season, striking out 13 batters and holding the Comets to one run and two hits in her first victory of the season.
Taryne Mowatt didn’t fare as well in the contest, surrendering five runs in five and a third innings. Mowatt started off the game with back to back walks to Caitlin Lowe and Kelly Kretschman. Both would go on to score later in the inning after Mowatt would walk two more in the inning, putting the Pride up 2-0 at the end of the 1st inning.
Things would not get better for Mowatt as she would go on to walk nine batters, giving up four runs and only striking out two.
The Comets Bianca Mejia had a hot bat for the NY/NJ Comets. Mejia went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run and she homered in the fifth inning. The home run would be the first in NY/NJ Comets history.
Kelsey Bruder was a bright spot for the USSSA Pride, going 1-3, batting in two runs and a walk in the game. Andrea Duran had two RBI in the contest with two walks in what would be an odd scoring night for the Pride.
The Pride look to continue their excellent start tomorrow with a double header on ESPN, live to a national audience. Fans can watch live on the WATCHESPN app and ESPN3.com. The first game of the double header starts at 5:35PM with the second at 8:35PM. Tune in to watch all the action live.
