Allentown, PA-June 24, 2016- Over 3,700 fans packed Coca-Cola Park Friday night to watch the conclusion of the seventh consecutive game between the USSSA Pride and PA Rebellion. The USSSA Pride outlasted the Rebellion, 4-3, in extras to take the two-game sweep in Allentown, PA.
The Pride were quick to start the scoring tonight when Shelby Pendley kicked things off in the first with a solo home run, her fourth of the season, to put the Pride up 1-0.
The Rebellion immediately responded in the bottom of the first when Lexi Elkins managed a two-out RBI single following a throwing error that placed Goler in scoring position to tie the ballgame at 1.
In the top of the second, Lauren Chamberlain put the pride back on top, 2-1, with a solo shot over the left field fence, her first of the 2016 season.
In the top of the third, Kretschman kicked things off with two outs laying down a perfectly placed bunt. Kretschman stole second then third as Shelby Pendley drew a walk to place runners on the corners with two outs. Pride rookie Sierra Romero added to the Pride advantage with an RBI single through the left side to put the pride up 3-1.
The Rebellion responded once again in the bottom of the third. Following two fielding errors, Winkfield and Porter reached the corners with no outs. On a fielders choice the Rebellion scored one more to make it 3-2. Sandberg then grounded out to second but not before the Rebellion scored one more to tie the ballgame at 3.
The Pride managed to load the bases in the top of the 5th but could not capitalize and left three stranded with a inning ending double play. Neither team could score in the final two innings of play and forced extras.
Kirsti Merritt lead off the 8th inning and landed on first following a hit by pitch ruling. Merritt advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Chamberlain. Hallie Wilson then stepped up to the plate and scored the go-ahead run on a game-winning RBI single. For her clutch performance, Hallie Wilson earned the Powerhandz Player of the Game.
Starting pitcher Jolene Henderson tossed seven full innings. She kept the Rebellion to six hits and struck out two batters. Jordan Taylor entered the game in the top of the 8th for Henderson to shut things down. Jordan struck out two of the final three Rebellion batters and picked up the save.
