Crowd of 3000 Watches Pride Edge Racers 3-2

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –  The USSSA Pride faced off against the Akron Racers on a gorgeous night in Corpus Christi, TX in front of a massive crowd of 3,030.

Danielle Lawrie(2-0) carried a 3-1 lead into the top of the 6th inning until Nicole Pauly singled home a run to make it a 3-2 ball game.

Lawrie didn’t falter and she held on,  closing out the Racers to get a complete game victory and a Pride win.

Racers’ (3-2) short stop Aja Paculba brought in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the third inning, her eighth RBI on the season, to give the Racers a short-lived 1-0 lead.

In the 3rd, Ashley Charters singled home Natasha Watley to tie the game at 1 a piece. In the 4th, after a great 9 pitch at bat, and fouling off 5 in a row, Francesca Enea tore into a high fastball and hit a deep home run to left; giving the Pride a 2-1 advantage. Natasha Watley would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Kretschman, in what would turn out to be the winning run.

Kristina Thorson (1-2) took the loss for the Racers, going six innings while walking three, striking out one and allowing three runs. Danielle Lawrie(2-0) would get the win, striking out 9 and walking 1 and surrendering 2 runs.

The USSSA Pride will continue their 4 game series against the Akron Racers tomorrow as they face off in game 2 at 7:05 CT.
