“Florida senior Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) was 2-for-3 on the evening, accounting for UF’s two hits in the contest against UCF, but the Knights got the best of the Gators Wednesday in Orlando, coming out on top with a 2-0 victory at the UCF Softball Complex.
“…Moultrie connected for UF’s first base hit of the contest, dropping a two-out lob in shallow left center for runners on second and third, but a lineout to UCF’s third baseman prevented the Gators from capitalizing.
“…Moultrie struck again the top of the sixth for Florida, laying down a one-out bunt single to get on base.”
Michelle Moultrie Named Top-25 Finalist for USA Softball’s Collegiate Player of the Year (4/12)
“Florida senior centerfielder Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore ace Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.), both 2011 All-Americans and All-SEC selections, have been recognized as two of 25 NCAA softball players in contention for USA Softball’s 2012 Collegiate Player of the Year.”
“…Rogers and Moultrie have each worked their way to the top of the NCAA standings in their respective specialties. Individually, Rogers holds a top-five spot in the NCAA in two categories: second in ERA (0.86) and fifth in victories (20), while ranking 11th in shutouts (8) and 12th in saves (3). Moultrie ranks fifth in the country with 1.26 runs per game and her four triples on the year place her 11th of all NCAA student-athletes.”
Vs. Auburn, April 13, 14, 15:
Game 1, 4/13: Florida 3, Auburn 2
Game 2, 4/14: Florida 3, Auburn 1
Game 3, 4/15: Florida 5, Auburn 2
Moultrie, 4/13-15: AB-9;R-2;H-2;RBI-3;BB-1;SO-1;PO-5;A-0;LOB-2
Game 1:
“After senior Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) put up the first run of the game with a solo shot – her ninth of the year – in the bottom of the third, Auburn countered with two fourth-inning scores to take a 2-1 lead.
“… Moultrie put a little more power into it the second time around, blasting one over the left-center fence to put the Gators on the board first in the bottom of the third inning with her ninth round-tripper of the year.”
Game 2:
“t wasn’t long before senior Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) smacked a two-RBI double to the right center warning track to give the Gators a 2-0 lead in the fifth with what would be her fifth game-winning RBI of the season and the first runs for either team on the day.
“…Moultrie sent both Medina and K. Fagan across home after roping a two-RBI double to deep right center for the 2-0 Gator lead. A freshman Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) groundout moved Moultrie on to third with two down in the home half of the fifth, but a groundout to short retired the home team before the Orange and Blue could extend the lead.”
Game 3:
“Katie Medina(Downey, Calif.) moved her to second with her team-leading ninth sac bunt of the season. With two down after a fly out, Gammel took third on a Bunner passed ball with the top of the Gator order and senior Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) at the plate. Moultrie drew a walk and proceeded to swipe second for her 19th stolen base of the season to put two runners in scoring position for the Orange and Blue.
“…Next up, S.Fagan delivered with a two-out two-RBI double, her sixth double of the season, to bring both Gammel and Moultrie across home for the 2-0 Gator lead.
“…. With bases loaded after a Moultrie hit-by-pitch and a S. Fagan walk, a Schmalz strikeout, her second of the day, ended UF’s threat.”
