Connecting with Charters: Sailing with the Sarasota Lady Sailors

The USSSA Pride’s Ashley Charters made her way down to Sarasota, Florida for a day of practice with the Sarasota Lady Sailors High School softball team.  The weather and breeze from the ocean set the scene for a great day of softball. Head coach of the Lady Sailors, Kelly Wilson was excited to have Ashley work out with her team for the day.  The practice started out with a couple segments of flip the tire which consisted of each softball player flipping a tire that weighs about 150 to 200lbs from third base to second.  This definitely set the tone for the practice itself Coach Wilson has a very disciplined group of girls who are hoping to win the state title this year after coming so close the year before.

Ashley Charters herself was able to jump in with the girls and try the intense warm-up which she said was a first but she greatly enjoyed the challenge. The girls on the team were very responsive to getting some extra pointers in the infield and slapping.  Since many of the girls on the team are hoping to attend college and play softball at some level the question and answer session proved to be the best part of the day.  Many of the girls asked questions surrounding Ashley’s college experience at the University of Washington and what it takes to succeed as a student foremost while juggling the demands of an athlete at such a level. The practice at Sarasota couldn’t of been more successful in terms of spreading softball opportunities available for young women today and promoting the National Pro Fastpitch.  Stay tuned for more adventures with Ashley Charters by following her on twitter @adcharters11 and Facebook .
