The Pride closed out the trip to Tallahassee with a 3-0 win over the Bandits on Tuesday night.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The USSSA Pride (5-1) closed out its series with Chicago (6-4) with a sweep, taking down the Bandits by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night at JoAnne Graf Field.
Vaultz® Lock it Up!® Player of the Game – Keilani Ricketts, after scattering four hits over 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just one walk and striking out five for her second win of the season.
The Pride opened the scoring in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk by Sierra Romero for a quick 1-0 lead. Walks to Megan Wiggins and Kelly Kretschman, along with a single by Lauren Chamberlain allowed USSSA to force home the game’s first run.
Kretschman made it 3-0 Pride in the second inning with a two-out, two-run home run to right field, scoring Wiggins who had reached on a fielder’s choice earlier in the inning.
That proved to be all the offense needed in the game as Ricketts and Jordan Taylor did not allow a Chicago runner to reach third base over the final five innings of the game.
The Bandits did threaten in the seventh inning, getting the first two batters on base via a hit-by-pitch, along with an infield single, to bring the tying run to the plate. Taylor battled back with a pair of looking strikeouts to Stacy May-Johnson and Alexa Peterson, and ended the game with a pop out to shortstop for her second save of 2017.
The Pride hit the road for their first true road series of the season, taking on the Scrapyard Dawgs on June 16-17. Both games will be broadcast on NPF-TV.com.
