Texas Charge Wins On Back-to-Back Nights vs. USSSA Pride

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 11, 2017) — A two-out single in the bottom of the sixth by Renada Davis helped the Charge record their second win in a row against the league-leading USSSA Pride Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Missouri.
Davis’ clutch piece of hitting plated teammate Nadia Taylor from second and helped Texas (14-15) post a 4-3 victory in a back-and-forth affair.
The Charge vaulted ahead 3-1 in the contest, but USSSA tallied a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to knot the score.
But thanks to Davis and the steady pitching of Dallas Escobedo, Texas was able to become the first National Pro Fastpitch team this season to send the Pride (20-5) to consecutive defeats.
“They’re a very competitive team, and every hitter is a great hitter, so I know I can’t take a hitter off,” Escobedo said afterward. “Staying within ourselves is what’s getting us by — doing what we know we can do without trying to do too much.”
For the second straight outing, it was the offense of the Charge that drew first blood. Lauren Haeger put her team on the board with an RBI single in her first at-bat of the evening.
The Pride answered with a run in the top of the third, but Texas’ Bailey Landry provided an RBI triple in the bottom half of the frame.
Missy Taukeiaho increased the Charge’s lead to 3-1 one inning later by poking an RBI single through the right side.
And while USSSA eventually tied the game in the fifth, Escobedo and Davis ensured that their team didn’t let a golden opportunity slip through its fingers.
Escobedo tossed a complete game and allowed one earned run on eight hits.
The Pride’s Kelsey Nunley took the loss in relief of starter Hannah Rogers.
Taylor, Haeger and Taylor Gadbois each collected two hits to lead the Charge’s effort from the batter’s box.

Texas and USSSA are set to cap their series today with a 7:05 p.m CT/ 8:05 pm ET game in Kansas City.
