Racers Fall To Pride in Inaugural Akron Racers Classic

hannah campbell1Columbus, OH – July 12, 2014The Akron Racers headed to Columbus, Ohio for the inaugural Akron Racers Classic at Berliner Park. Lannah Campbell made her first professional start for the Racers, throwing one inning, and allowing five runs on six hits, and recording the loss.

Madison Shipman proved to be too much for the Racers, going 3 for 4 at the plate and hitting two home runs. Her 3 run home run in the first inning gave the Pride a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Pride would add two more runs in the second inning, on singles from Keilani Ricketts, Megan Willis. Rachele Fico then entered the game for the Racers, and surrendered a single to Natasha Watley. A SAC fly from Caitlin Lowe drove in Sharonda McDonald, who pinch ran for Ricketts. Shipman then singled to left to drive in Willis.

Both teams scored in the third inning, as Kelly Kretschman singled to right field, and Amanda Kamekona singled to drive in pinch runner Brejae Washington. The Racers would score their only run on a solo home run from Haley Outon.

The Pride would score the final three runs of the game in the fourth inning. Madison Shipman led the inning off with a home run. Andrea Duran walked and scored on an error by Kelley Montalvo that allowed Kretschman to reach base and advance to third. Kretschman then scored on Kamekona’s single to centerfield.

Hannah Campbell came in to pitch in the sixth inning, and allowed no runs on one hit, walking one and striking out one to finish the game for the Racers.

Ricketts earned the win for the Pride, pitching four innings, allowing one run on two hits, while walking one and striking out three. Danielle Lawrie entered the game in the 5th inning to record the save. She threw 3 innings of scoreless softball, surrendering no hits, while striking out two.
