Rebellion Loses to Pride In Inaugural Home Opener 6-2

rebellion12Washington, PA –June 5, 2014 – The Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, fell to the USSSA Pride by a final score of 6-2 in their inaugural home opener at CONSOL Energy Park on Thursday, June 5.

The top of USSSA’s batting order proved the most troublesome for the Rebellion defense. Left fielder Sharonda McDonald and center fielder Caitlin Lowe combined for 6 of the Pride’s 10 hits, with each scoring twice as well.

In the top of the first inning, USSSA wasted no time in picking up where they left off in the two teams’ last meeting. Back-to-back singles from McDonald and Lowe put runners in scoring position. Both later plated off of a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Pride. An RBI double by right fielder Kelly Kretschman later in the inning, followed by RBI singles from Lowe and first baseman Gionna DiSalvatore in the second put USSSA ahead by 5 runs early.

Pennsylvania answered back in the bottom of the second inning when catcher Mandy Ogle lined a single into the centerfield grass to plate right fielder Brittney Lindley and second baseman Lauren Lappin. Ogle paced the Rebellion at the plate, going 1-3 with an RBI. Lindley, Lappin, designated player Taylor Edwards and pinch hitter Nicole Morgan also added a hit each.

A solo home run by USSSA designated player Kristyn Sandberg in the top half of the fifth inning proved to be the game clincher as the score would remain 6-2 for the remainder of the contest.

Starter Olivia Galati earned the win for USSSA, while Sarah Pauly took the loss for the Rebellion.
